When to Date Again After a Relationship Ends
After a relationship ends, it can be hard to know when to start dating again. In this video, you’ll learn how to know if you’re ready.

How long should you wait to date after a relationship ends? It depends on many factors — what type of relationship was it, how long were you together, who ended the relationship, and much more. That’s what I’ll be covering in this video.
When to Date Again After a Relationship Ends
Let’s first look at the type of relationship you were in and why it ended.
Were you at the beginning stage of dating? Had you been dating longer than 6 months? Many years? Were you living together? Was it a divorce? Were you widowed?
Who ended the relationship? Had there been challenges in the relationship that were not discussed or that you dismissed? Had you spoken about issues and nothing changed over time? Were you blindsided?
Many experts say you should wait a proscribed amount of time to wait to date again, depending on how long you were in the relationship. I disagree. I don’t think there’s one-size-fits-all in dating or relationships. As you can see, there are many types of relationships and many ways that relationships end. All of these factors determine when to date again.
What I do recommend is before dating, take some time to heal.
9 tips to help you be ready to date again after a relationship ends
1. Do a relationship post-mortem.
2. Practice self-care.
3. Identify new goals and interests.
4. Get comfortable being alone.
5. Envision a different future.
6. Make sure you’re not rebounding.
7. Prepare to date with an open heart.
8. Get clear about what you want and need at this point in your life.
9. Date without expectations.
When you date again, design what works for you. If you just want to have fun, do that, and learn about yourself through that experience. Take off the pressure of having to find “the one” or a perfect fit life partner. Just be honest with yourself and the men you date about what you’re looking for.
When relationships end, the future you had planned is disrupted. So remove the artificial timelines in your head about the right time to date. Hopefully these tips will help guide you towards figuring it out for yourself.
Healing is not linear, and no one is going to be perfectly ready to move on at any given time. When you’re self-reflective, you’ll know when to date again. And you’ll be glad you took the time figure it out for yourself!
