When Dating Feels Like a Chore
What do you do when dating feels like a chore? Delete the apps? Take a break? Try these tips to enjoy dating again.
What if dating feels like a chore? Is it time to take a break from dating? You’re burned out. Dating feels like work. You keep seeing the same faces online. You’ve been on multiple boring dates. In this video, I share five tips for what you can do when dating feels like another thing on your to-do list that you don’t want to do!
When Dating Feels Like a Chore, Do These 5 Things!
- Take a break. It might be a good time to stop dating, give yourself a specific time frame. Start small – maybe a week without going on any dating apps or talking to anyone new. See how you feel. If you need more time, take it. But, be careful not to completely stop dating if finding love is your ultimate goal.
- Have a dating goal reset. Ask yourself why you’re dating. What outcome do you hope for? What are your expectations for every date? If you’ve been dating with the expectation that every person you meet might be “the one”, you’ve probably been disappointed a lot. Instead, go in with a healthier mindset, such as, “I see this date as an opportunity to learn more about myself and improve how I interact with men”.
- Are you too picky or not picky enough? If you set the bar too high or too low, it can lead to dating burnout. Be picky about your absolute must-haves and let everything else fall into the ‘nice-to-have’ list. Drop the unrealistic requirements you might have for the people you date, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much more fun dating can be.
- Meet people in real life. Go to meetups, join a class or club you’ve been hearing about, step outside your comfort zone and do things solo. That’s the best way to meet people everywhere you go. Strike up a conversation, and you might meet someone awesome.
- Reframe dating. If dating has become a chore, think of a new metaphor for dating. Maybe it’s a theme park with all types of rides, or you’re on a safari and you’re searching for a rare breed. Come up with something that puts a new perspective on dating, and you’ll prepare your brain for fun instead of dread.
If you follow these five steps, I can guarantee dating will feel less like a chore and more like a journey towards your last first date. Remember, you’re only looking for one special person. And it might take some sifting and sorting to find them!
