What did you think swinging would add to your relationship?
I was ten years into my marriage, my business was growing, and I thought I had a great marriage because we never had a fight. The reason we started being interested in swinging was due to the high level of stress in our lives. We didn’t have fun in our marriage. We went to a club just to have fun. We realized we had been burying so much under the rug. We experienced the sexy fun lifestyle, but it didn’t work for us. In the end, non-monogamy didn’t work for us. But, we learned a lot.
What was the biggest lesson you learned through the process?
We saw each other in a whole new light. We learned the importance of an exciting sex life. And we learned that we had to communicate our needs and feelings on a regular basis. I realized I was emotionally needy, even though I thought everything had been going well.
How has communicating your needs changed your relationship and personal goals?
We’re much closer now. We would have probably grown apart had we not learned to communicate better.
What’s your best advice for couples who are in a rut in the bedroom?
If you’re stressed in your life, and you want to have more joy in the bedroom, focus on prioritizing sex. What if every time you entered the bedroom, you’d say to yourself, “I’m going to have the best sex of my life today”. It’s about setting the intention. Make a list of what you’d want to happen if you had twenty minutes or two hours.
Men want to please their women much more than women think. They want to spend time with them. Make dates with your partner to have sex. Get in the mood, get in your body. Turn off distractions. Be indulgent.
