EP 552: Tal Yardeni – How to Recover from a Breakup

Why do you think self-love as we know it is BS, and why true self love is crucial to healing from heartbreak?

Self-love and self-worth are muscles. We’re taught to be selfless. How do you embody self-worth? You take care of yourself first. Boundaries are crucial. Don’t abandon yourself in a relationship. Get comfortable saying no.

I have clients look at their last three relationships, and write down the things that were missing. Identify why it was important. It’s usually a core value that wasn’t met.

Next, tap into your intuition. Connect to your body so you can recognize when something doesn’t feel right. Get curious about it.

Then, you can create your future and figure out what you want next.

What’s the #1 thing that keeps people from moving on from heartbreak?

People don’t accept that the person they dated is who he or she is. Not what you wish they’d be or the words they used to say that didn’t match their actions.

Why is no contact absolutely necessary to moving on after a breakup?

It’s called a breakup for a reason. We need to feel what life is like for us without this person, no matter how bad the breakup is. It’s confusing to your mind and keeps you stuck.

Why is it a good idea to put dating on hold while healing from a breakup, and when is it okay to date again?

People start dating too soon. It’s a form of escapism. You need to learn to self-regulate instead of seeking validation externally. You’ll repeat the same cycle instead of finding the right relationship.

How can a spiritual practice be your saving grace during a breakup?

I believe an element of surrender is important. It’s not about giving up. It’s about giving over to something bigger than us. Surrender and be led. I’m in communication with my angels who reveal to me what I need to know.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

Know you are deserving of what it is that you want. You’re incredible and there’s someone as incredible as you out there.
