EP 556: Treva Brandon Scharf – When You’re Done Being Single!

Tell us your story of finding love later in life.

Many dates, many boyfriends, lots of triumphs and joys. I was single ‘til I was 50. I met Robby on my fiftieth birthday. He was also a late bloomer. When I got married, it all became clear that some things are out of our control and some things are in our control. I had my own path, and this was part of the plan. I had a great time being single. It doesn’t have to be misery. I had to be in the right mindset to meet my husband. That’s when I started my blog.

You’re a bit old fashioned when it comes to romance. How do you view feminism in modern dating?

I hate it. It’s at odds with everything we know about dating and romance and courtship. I am a feminist, but when it comes to dating, the old rules still apply. I like the whole dance of romance. I love old-fashioned gestures.

You believe online dating is ruining romance. How?

There’s a lot of disenchantment with online dating. People get lazy and angry from getting ghosted and mistreated, and they take it in and pass it on to the next person.

How do you suggest people meet potential dates IRL?

Make it easier for a potential match to approach you. Make eye contact. Get off your phone. Wherever you are, look at someone and smile. Say hi. Make a joke about how long the line is.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

Practice kindness, warmth, accessibility, and assert yourself. Stay in your feminine energy, and understand that everyone is isolated. Try baby steps to connect with people wherever you go. Stay approachable. Guys will appreciate it.
