5 Ways to Be More Patient in Dating

patient in dating

In this video, you’ll learn 5 ways to be more patient in dating so you build a relationship slowly and steadily.

Patience is very important in dating, but it’s not always easy to stay calm and collected when you feel a strong connection with someone. Whether it’s waiting for them to text you back or ask you out again, or feeling like the relationship is moving too slowly, it can be challenging to keep your cool and trust that things will unfold naturally — without trying to control the outcome. In this video, I cover five ways to be more patient in dating.

Many people want instant gratification when dating. The fantasy is you meet someone, get into a relationship, and live happily ever after. But everyone you date doesn’t necessarily want the same type of relationship as you, and the pace in dating can vary greatly from person to person. That’s why it’s important to be clear about what type of relationship you want and need and what type of partner would be the best fit for you, and then practice patience.

If you become impatient and try to rush a relationship, there can be negative consequences. Take your time and get to know the person you’re dating as well as possible before making any life-changing decisions such as moving in or planning a future together.

5 Ways to Be More Patient in Dating

There are several different ways to become more patient when it comes to dating and relationships. Here are my top five:

1. Pay attention to what’s being said…and not said

When listening, make sure you fully understand what your partner is saying. Don’t interrupt them or change the subject. Just listen and take it all in. Also pay attention to what’s not being said, because you can learn a lot about a person through their omissions and body language.

2. Match their energy

If they send short texts, send short texts back. If they want a relationship with you, they will invest more and more time and energy into getting to know you. Match their energy as much as you can, and you won’t feel as if you’re over-investing in the relationship.

3. It’s a marathon, not a sprint

Slow and steady wins the dating race. When you take your time at the beginning, you’ll be less likely to ignore red flags. You’ll get to know them through good times and bad. You’ll see how they handle conflict. Once a strong foundation is built, the relationship usually escalates quickly.

4. Don’t compare your relationship to others

It’s unhealthy to compare the pace of your relationship with anyone else’s. It’s easy to be jealous of the friend who’s been dating a shorter amount of time and is already living together. Or the friend who’s engaged, when you would like to be married. Look within and ask yourself if this relationship is working for you. If everything is going well and moving in the right direction, be patient.

5. Stay focused on the rest of your life

When you have hobbies and passions in life, it’s a lot easier to be patient. You’ll have wonderful and meaningful projects to focus on, which will help you let go of trying to control the outcome of your dating life.

Being patient in dating is key to having a successful and fulfilling relationship. When you take the time to understand each other and respect one another, it will make the wait well worth it.
