EP 600: Madeline Charles – 3 Keys to Becoming Secure in Love

Tell us about your love story!

The reason I love supporting women to become secure is because I was that woman who attracted unavailable men, put men on pedestals, and had fantasy thinking. I cleaned up some old patterns and took radical responsibility for how I showed up and related. I met my husband online and we got married last year.

How do you define being secure in love?

It’s knowing you have your own back, and no matter what you’re navigating, you’ll be okay. You then can be more vulnerable, navigate conflict and hold the blissful moments, too.

What does it look like when someone is not feeling secure in love?

You’re second guessing, hypervigilant and scanning for signs that things are off when they’re not, you are fantasy-thinking, you blame yourself for anything that might be wrong and feel overly responsible for the outcome. You might be shape-shifting to fit into their lives. You’re also prone to a push-pull relationship, which is painful to experience.

What are the 3 keys to becoming secure in love?

  1. Regulated in your nervous system. Be aware of your body’s responses in dating and relationships.
  2. Receptivity. Be willing to receive attention, love and care. Up your self-worth to be able to trust care from another.
  3. Radiance. Feminine energy, letting yourself take up more space in the world. Your radiance creates great energy, you’re not shrinking anymore. You’ll have more courage.

What are the unique challenges and opportunities spiritual, successful women have in love?

The message in society for success in life is being successful in your career, being autonomous. There’s a fantasy that love will happen after your career is settled. They wake up one day and realize they’re struggling to find love. It’s easier and safer to find success in your work life. Love is stickier than that. When you decide you’re ready for love, you might need to find a softer, non-linear side.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to find their last first date?

Go on your last first date by dropping into your authentic nature. What do you deeply desire? How do you want to show up on dates to foster the connection you desire? Trust, faith, belief that this could be it!
