EP 610: Carla Romo – Do Dating Apps Really Suck?

Why do people burnout on apps?

It’s emotional if you don’t develop a tough skin. Most people feel confused, lonely, scared, and they have a scarcity mentality. You’ll burn out emotionally if you have that mindset.

Do the apps really suck?

Make the apps work for you, and don’t let the apps control you. Don’t sit home all day on the apps. Make a schedule for yourself. Ask yourself what works for you.

How does someone make the apps work for them?

If you’re experiencing flakiness on the apps or ghosting, keep going. Cope with the disappointment, and fill your life with hobbies and friends so the apps are not your whole life. Go back to why you’re on the apps, what you hope for.

What are the top 2 things to do to find dating app success?

Your life is the sundae and relationships are the cherry on top.

  1. When you’re creating the dating app prompts, get descriptive and show off your personality. “Craziest thing I ever did…travel across the country camping out at all the national parks”
  2. When choosing profile pictures, tell a story. Use a variety that will prompt a person to write to you. Don’t post groups or pics of your kids.

What are the sneaky red flags on dating apps?

Be careful if something feels off or is too good to be true. Follow your gut and walk away. If someone wants to move to texting too soon, it could be a red flag, especially WhatsApp. Or if they write what sounds like a love novel, run. If someone is inconsistently messaging and not moving to a first date, back off and see what happens.

What are your final words of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

I suggest before you agree to go out with someone, ask “curious what you’re looking for since everyone’s on the apps looking for different things”.
