Ever experienced mixed signals in dating? It can be crazy-making, but it doesn’t have to. These 5 mixed signals are clear red flags!
—
You’re getting mixed signals from someone you’re dating, and you’re consumed with trying to understand what they mean. Stop! It’s exhausting and a waste of time and energy to try and decode mixed signals.
Dating shouldn’t be so hard or confusing. You shouldn’t have to worry about what the other person is thinking or how they feel about you. If there is a lack of effort or clear inconsistencies, the person you’re dating is not truly invested or at least not ready to invest in a relationship with you.
Following are five mixed signals in dating that are clear red flags.
5 Mixed Signals in Dating That Are Clear Red Flags
Mixed signal #1: Bread-crumbing: They give you just enough attention to convince you they’re interested. For example, they text or call every once in a while, but they don’t usually make a plan to see you. When you speak with them, they don’t seem very interested in your life or show empathy when you share something important. They give you just enough effort to keep you hooked, but it’s not enough to build a relationship.
Mixed signal #2: Lack of follow-through: They say they’ll call at a certain time or day and don’t. You’re left waiting for their call or constantly checking your phone for a text. Or they wait several days or even weeks to call or text after a date. They might make plans with you and cancel at the last minute or forget they even made a plan. They say they like you and want to see you again, but their lack of follow-through doesn’t allow the relationship to progress.
Mixed signal #3: Blowing hot and cold: Sometimes they seem like they’re really into you and other times they show little interest or effort. You have fun dates and conversations and then there are periods of little contact and only brief exchanges. There might be good chemistry when you’re together, but when you’re apart they’re more distant.
Mixed signal #4: They’re not sure what they’re looking for: They may appear to be interested. They may say they’re looking for a long term relationship, but their actions tell another story. When you try to define the relationship, they might say they want to “see where things go” instead of committing to exclusivity or defining their relationship goals. They give excuses as to why they can’t commit right now or what needs to happen in their life in order for them to be ready for commitment.
Mixed signal #5: Their actions and words don’t match. They say all the right things, and you believe them. They say you’re the most amazing person they’ve ever dated. But their actions don’t follow their words. They talk about how much they care about you or want to date you, but it’s inconsistent with their actions.
These five so-called mixed signals are actually clear red flags. So, the next time you feel like you’re getting any of these mixed signals, do not over-analyze them. Address it with the person you’re dating, and clarify what you need and what’s not working for you. It’ll help you strengthen communication, minimize confusion, and set you on the path toward a meaningful, lasting relationship!
