What is dating in Denver like for post-divorce midlife singles? 

I enjoy dating. I’ve been divorced for over thirteen years. I thought it would be rough. And it can be frustrating, since I hadn’t dated in fifteen years. I’d think the date went well, and I’d never hear from them again. That’s why I started the podcast. I like skiing, hiking, and biking, so if you’re into that, dating in Denver is pretty good.

What are some dating dos and don’ts for single divorced dads?

  • Age is just a number. Find someone who’s in a similar place in life, similar intelligence, etc.
  • Don’t rule people out so quickly.
  • Think through your absolute must haves and deal breakers. 
  • Have your own passions and interests separate from the person you’re dating.
  • Do what you love.

Men, remember that an attractive woman with a decent profile is inundated with men messaging her. Guys get frustrated when they get few responses. Be patient. Look at how you’re portraying yourself, grooming yourself, do you have healthy habits? How does your home look? Ask yourself if you’re the kind of man that will attract women. Women will find you attractive when you’re engaged in your passions.

Are dating apps a good way for single dads over 40 to meet their match?

Yes, online dating is a great introduction tool, but I’m meeting most people through my podcast and activities. I also attend a mountain biking group, and I meet new friends and some dates.

What are your final words of advice for anyone – especially a divorced dad – who wants to go on their last first date?

On my podcast I say, “Go out there, try to have some fun, try to not hurt anyone and try to fall in love.”
