What are some dos and don’ts about dating in midlife you’ve learned from the experts you’ve had on 2nd Act TV?
The importance of communication has been the biggest thing I’ve learned. Don’t judge by how we feel they should be. Men are different from women. The show has been like a therapy session for me. I’ve learned how our past can influence us in detrimental ways.
What are the most popular topics on your show?
I started the show more broadly on many topics that had to do with starting over, but I quickly realized I wanted to focus on dating and relationships. One in three people over fifty are single. I also focus on sex after fifty, because it’s hard to find honest conversations around this topic.
What topics were most surprising to you?
I did several interviews recently with Dr. James Simon about vaginal health and with Joan Price, who’s 80 and a “sexpert” on senior sex. Those videos had a lot of views. It was surprising how little we know about sex and intimacy at this stage in life. I also learned from my guests how important it was to take responsibility for our own actions.
What are some of the best and worst comments on your videos?
The positive comments keep me going, especially when I hear that the show has helped change people’s lives. The comments I remember are the critical ones. I was surprised at how many jaded men there are who hate women.
What’s your best advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?
If you want to find love again. Take account of your mindset and expectations. What you put out there, you attract. Have fun and expect something good to happen. You’re not alone!
